Whale calf dies after washing ashore at Anastasia Island

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — A right whale calf has died after washing ashore at Anastasia Island Saturday morning.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the whale calf was struck by a boat and was beached as a result.

The whale will remain on shore until Sunday morning when crews will return to remove it.

Along with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Anastasia State Park workers also assisted with the whale calf.

They urge anyone that comes across a beached animal to stay at least 500 yards away and contact 1-877-WHALE HELP (1-877-942-5343).
