A student was arrested for possession of a gun at Matthew Gilbert Middle School on Thursday.
Duval County School Police and school administrators began investigating after getting a tip from a student, according to a statement from DCPS.
A Bridge to Success student was searched just before dismissal and that student was taken into custody. That student "will be disciplined according to the Code of Conduct and faces possible expulsion," DCPS said.
DCPS said "Parents and guardians of the Bridge to Success program and Matthew Gilbert Middle School were informed of the incident later in the evening via an automated call, and asked to talk with their children, emphasize their role in keeping our school campuses safe, and monitor items he or she may bring to school."
