Some of those Coast Guard members lined up at the USO’s Mayport Center, gathering food for their families. “I’ve got two kids at home, one is special needs,” Rachel Broxson said. “We have to do what we have to do to make sure bills are paid and kids are fed.”
Broxson’s husband is among the 546 Coast Guard members who are without pay in Jacksonville.
“We’re trying to figure out what we can do with what little we have, stretch it out as much as possible,” Rachel Broxson said.
