JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The man police believe killed an incoming Jacksonville University student in a "calculated" case of road rage has been charged with her murder.
Twenty-eight year old David Andrew Desper surrendered to Pennsylvania police early Saturday.
Police say he shot 18 year-old Bianca Roberson in the head Wednesday after the two jockeyed for position while merging from two lanes to one onto a West Goshen highway.
Roberson's car drifted into the woods and hit a tree. Police say Desper took off from the scene "like a bat out of hell."
Witnesses reported hearing a gunshot and seeing a man in a red pickup truck with a dent which police identified as the suspect's vehicle.
Detectives used surveillance video to track the direction that the vehicle fled and ultimately identify the truck as a Chevrolet.
They also determined that the bullet that killed Roberson came from a .40-caliber Smith & Wesson handgun.
As the investigation honed in on all the red pickups and gun permits in the region, police urged the killer to turn himself in.
At 2 a.m. Saturday, Desper surrendered to West Goshen Police and was placed under arrest. He is charged with murder, possession of an instrument of crime and reckless endangerment.
He was arraigned and is being held without bail.
Police located the truck in Delaware County. They say they found the 40-caliber semi-auto handgun in Desper's bedroom.
