The suspect in the disappearance of a St. Johns County priest waved for the cameras and said “smile for the cameras” when he appeared before a South Carolina judge on Thursday.
Steven Murray, 28, was captured late Wednesday in Aiken, S.C. He’s the prime suspect in the disappearance of Father Rene Robert, a 71-year-old Catholic priest who has not been seen since Sunday, when he was scheduled to visit a patient at Orange Park Medical Center.
Weapons were found in the car Murray abandoned before leading police on a foot chase. St. Johns County Sheriff David Shoar, a longtime friend of Father Rene’s, said that there is evidence that a crime has been committed and that he hoped for a resolution “within 24 hours.”
