Residents at a motel on Jacksonville’s westside are looking for a new place to stay after being kicked out of their homes.

Tenants told Action News Jax management of the Diamond Inn on Ramona Boulevard planned to renovate the property.

But the city fire marshal wouldn’t allow for it due to safety violations; they ordered everyone off the property.

Melvin Green, one tenant who’s lived at the Diamond Inn for three years, told Action News Jax the motel ran into trouble because it tried to be begin renovations on the building without a permit.

Green said he doesn’t understand why management didn’t just take the proper steps for renovation to avoid creating this inconvenience for everyone who lives there.

“My thing is, about the 72 hours, from Wednesday night, when I seen it until 5 o’clock today it said we had to be gone so…to me that’s not 72 hours,” said Green.

Action News Jax requested the safety inspection documents from JFRD so we can learn more about the safety violations that led to today’s eviction.

We’ll share those details with you, both on-air and online when we receive them.
