Semi-trailer truck engulfed in flames after crash on I-95; FHP says driver died on scene

NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. — Update: 8:00 p.m. 2.23.23

Reports from the Florida Highway Patrol state that at approximately 4:20 p.m. Thursday afternoon, a driver of a semi truck was traveling north on I-95 when, for reasons still unknown, swerved onto the outside shoulder and collided into the tree line. The semi then became engulfed in flames.

First responders announced the driver deceased on the scene.

As of the writing of this update, traffic is still moving extremely slowly. Take caution if you are traveling I-95 northbound in Nassau County.

Original Story: Northbound lanes on I-95, just north of the weigh station, were closed this afternoon because of a deadly crash.

The accident is just before mile marker 378 near the Florida-Georgia border.

Action News Jax has learned that the northbound lanes have recently reopened but that traffic is moving very slowly.
