Pedestrian struck and killed on Philips Highway; 23rd traffic fatality this year in Duval County

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Update 11:15 p.m.: The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that on Thurs., Feb. 16, at around 8:30 p.m. a man walking on Philips Highway was struck and killed by a sports utility vehicle.

According to police, a Chevrolet Tahoe was heading south on Philips Highway. The driver did not see the pedestrian, striking and killing him.

The woman did stop, called police and waited for their arrival.

Unfortunately, the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department pronounced the man dead at the scene.

This is the second traffic fatality that has taken place in the last two nights and the 23rd traffic fatality in Duval County this year.
