St. Augustine, Fla. — On Sunday, the City of St. Augustine will celebrate their annual Blessing of the Fleet event, and officials are warning weekend visitors to expect afternoon traffic delays.
The Blessing of the Fleet in St. Augustine is a historical ceremony dating back to the city’s earliest days of Spanish colonial occupation and takes place each year on Palm Sunday.
City officials say drivers should expect traffic delays around the Plaza de la Constitución beginning at 12:30 p.m. to accommodate the annual Blessing of the Fleet’s procession from the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine to the Municipal Marina.
In addition, the Bridge of Lions will remain closed to all marine traffic from the start of the event for approximately three hours, depending on the number of participating vessels.
