JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Officials are investigating a hit-and-run crash that killed a woman on Jacksonville's Westside.

The Florida Highway Patrol responded at about 6:45 a.m. to a call of a body found in or near Normandy Boulevard and Lamping Lane, which is east of Herlong Road. Troopers said the body was found with no vehicle around.

Troopers are treating the woman's death as a fatal hit and run. Officials believe the crash happened around 11 p.m. Monday.

Daniel Johnson, who claims to be the victim's boyfriend, told Action News Jax the woman hit and killed was Rebecca Gomez.

Gomez is a mother of three, Johnson said.

“She was a good person and a good mother,” Johnson said.

Investigators are searching for the driver who hit the victim and left. The vehicle sought in connection with the investigation is a '94 to '98 yellow Chevrolet Suburban or Tahoe pick-up truck with right front damage, troopers said.

The investigation has closed multiple lanes of Normandy Boulevard near Lamplighter Lane to traffic for several hours.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash.
