Police are looking for a 36-year-old St. Augustine man after a woman was shot and killed while holding a child and a young man was found dead in West Augustine on Tuesday.
Police said Johnny Williams Jr., 36, of St. Augustine is a person of interest after 24-year-old Jamie Wilson and 18-year-old Keiwuan Murray were shot and killed Tuesday afternoon. Family members say Williams and Wilson were dating.
Detectives initially said two men took off in a silver car after Murray was killed at W. 4th Street and Duval. Deputies then said they were initially searching for suspects in a stolen burgundy Ford Contour after Wilson and Murray were shot dead at two different locations within minutes of each other. The silver car was ditched for the Contour with Florida tag 362JLL, according to deputies.
Wilson, who dropped her baby when she was shot, was found dead 1 1/2 miles away on Rollins Avenue. Investigators believe Wilson was the first victim. The baby was taken to the hospital as a precaution. A bystander was shot in the hand during one of the shootings, which St. Johns County deputies believe are related.
"I had no idea today that someone would come up to me and tell me that my niece Jamie Wilson was dead because of what? Because of anger, because of drugs?" said Jolay Carswell, Wilson's uncle.
Wilson’s aunt said she heard it all from inside her house.
I heard gunshot wounds while I was home lying in bed looking at television, maybe seven or eight shots," said Kriemhilda Mitchell, Wilson’s aunt.
Williams is now believed to be the only person of interest. Deputies located the other possible suspect, who was found not to be associated with the shooting. Seven schools were on a soft lockdown in the wake of the shootings.
Williams' criminal history is extensive. According to St. Johns County Clerk of Courts documents, he was arrested in 1998 for battery on a law enforcement officer, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon in 2001, attempted felony murder in a drive-by shooting in 2002, cocaine possession and driving with a suspended or canceled license in 2009, weapon possession in 2010.
Williams is described as 5 feet 9 inches tall and 195 pounds. Anyone with information about his whereabouts or the location of the Ford Contour is asked to call 911. At this time, investigators aren't releasing a possible motive in the shootings.
