Two Jacksonville-area JCPenney stores will be among 138 locations to close nationwide, the company said on Friday.
The store at the Jacksonville Regional Shopping Center on Dunn Avenue and another store at the Palatka Mall are slated to close.
The company is also closing a supply chain facility in Lakeland, Florida, the company said.
A spokesperson for JCPenney said the stores are closing as part of an effort to advance sustainable growth and long-term profitability.
Approximately 5,000 positions nationwide will be impacted by the store closures.
JCPenney said it is in the process of trying to relocate leaders to other positions in the company and will provide outplacement support services for other employees.
The company said most affected stores will begin the liquidation process on April 17.
