The University of North Florida said it is investigating a video that appears to mock "in a racist way" students who participated in a rally on campus on Wednesday.
UNF released the following statement:
"The University has been made aware of a video that appears to show several people mocking, in a racist way, the students who took part in a rally on campus this afternoon. We began investigating immediately up on receiving a copy of the video at approximately 6 p.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 11."
The video was posted to Snapchat with the caption, "What actually went on at the BML rally," which many say meant "Black Lives Matter."
The "take a knee" rally was organized by the group Students for a Democratic Society. The goal of the rally was two-fold: call for police accountability and more black studies.
UNF President John Delaney sent out a message saying the university is investigating the video and that if the Code of Student Conduct was violated the university will take action.
"We are a campus with strong policies and practices concerning racial harmony, civility, diversity, respect and bullying. In matters such as this, there are always elements of free speech, due process and federal laws concerning privacy," said Pres. Delaney.
