VIDEO RELEASED: St. Johns deputies still searching for suspects involved in I-95 shooting

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office is still looking for suspects in a highway shooting on Interstate 95 that happened on Tuesday.

A man was shot and a woman was hurt after the car they were in crashed into the center guard rail.

Newly released dash camera footage was released and shows the moment deputies say four masked men opened fire into the car. This, along with new 911 calls, were released by the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.

One call is from the woman who was in the car that was shot. You’re able to hear the fear in her voice as she called in a panic, worrying the suspects were going to come back and kill them.

“We are on the highway someone shot us, we’re stuck. We need help, please!” the victim in the passenger seat said to dispatchers.

The chilling 911 calls were released from a highway shooting in St. Johns County.

Dispatch: “You were involved in a crash?”

Victim: “No, we got shot, we got shot!”

Dispatch: “You said you got shot?”

Victim: “Yes, we got shot!”

Dispatch: “Shot by what ma’am?”

Victim: “I don’t know, a red car!”

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office says four masked men in a red car drove alongside this white Mercedes on I-95 South near County Road 210 and International Golf Pkwy. One of those masked men opened fire, shooting the driver and hurting the passenger after they crashed into a guard rail.

Victim: “I’m scared, they’re going to come back and finish killing us.”

The passenger victim called 911 immediately.

“In the middle of the highway please! Please, they’re going to kill us, please!”

Dispatch: “We’re on the way.”

Victim: “How long? How long?”

Witness dash camera footage shows the moment the suspects red car speeds up to the white Mercedes and someone starts shooting. You can see what looks like bullets hitting the pavement and dirt on the highway and what appears to be a shooter hanging outside the window firing, along with the muzzle flashes from the gun.

Several witnesses called it in.

“There was a car that is red, he has like an M4, he put it out the window and started shooting the cars behind him,” one witness said traveling northbound on I-95. --

“It was a passenger hanging out the window,” another witness said to dispatchers while driving behind the Mercedes. “He was shooting probably an AR-15 with 30 rounds, I probably counted 30 shots.”

At last check, the driver is in critical condition, the woman was hurt from broken glass.

“He’s really bad, he’s really bad,” the victim in the passenger seat told deputies. She said the man was unconscious.

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office told Action News Jax they don’t have the suspect car’s tag number; the agency also said the victims don’t live in St. Johns county and there’s no evidence right now that the suspects have any ties to the county either.

No arrests have been made in the case yet.
