JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — New video obtained by the Florida Times-Union shows two officers arresting a woman at the Scores Bar.
The two officers are seen on top of a woman one officer is seen in the dashcam video holding her and another officer hitting her and handcuffing her.
A Jacksonville Sheriff's Office officer was fired and arrested after a video showed him striking and kicking a woman in handcuffs at the jail, JSO Undersheriff Pat Ivey announced Thursday.
JSO said the incident happened after the woman was drunk and had resisted arrest at the Scores Bar.
The former officer, Akinyemi A. Borisade, had only been on the force for about 13 months. He now faces a battery charge in connection with the incident.
The jail video showed a woman, who was handcuffed, quickly pushed back against the jail wall by Borisade. The woman then kicks him twice, and then he is then seen allegedly punching the woman multiple times before another officer walks over.
According to police documents, it wasn’t the first time Borisade hit Mayra Martinez. The initial arrest report said Martinez was belligerent at Scores Bar, refusing to leave when Borisade and another officer showed up. The woman kicked and bit Borisade, according to the report.
Ivey said Borasade’s behavior is unacceptable.
“She’s handcuffed, there are ways this could have been handled without striking her,” Ivey said during a Thursday news conference.
Action News Jax asked JSO why the other officers didn’t stop Borasade and if they could be reprimanded. JSO said since one of the officers intervened, there was no need for the others to and therefore no reprimand.
In addition to the original trespassing charge, Martinez was charged with resisting an officer with violence.
Borisade will have the opportunity to clear his name at a name clearing hearing.
