Voters cast ballots in special election for new Ware County sheriff

Ware County, Ga. — Ware County voters will cast their ballots Tuesday to elect a new sheriff following the death of former Sheriff Randy Royal.

Voters will choose between Republican Carl James, deputy sheriff of Ware County, and Republican Chris Tatum, a retired law enforcement officer.

Since both candidates are running as Republican, anyone wishing to vote must request a Republican ballot.

All polling places will be open 7 am – 7 pm on Election Day March 16.

Sheriff Royal, 57, died in January following a short illness, according to his online obituary. His cause of death was not was not duty or COVID-related.
