JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Original Story: Charter plane skids into St. Johns at NAS JAX, 142 people on board

What we know: 

  • A Boeing 737 plane slid off the runway at NAS JAX
  • There were 136 passengers, military personnel and civilians, and seven aircrews onboard
  • At least 19 people were treated at local hospitals after an aircraft ran off the runway into the St. Johns River on Friday night
  • There were pets onboard
  • Aircraft overran runway 11. Departed right side of runway, impacted low sea wall
  • Plane built in 2001; no history of accident or incidents
  • Pavement on the runway is not grooved. Grooves allow rain to run off runway quicker
  • Reports of heavy rain at the time
