Clay County Sheriff deputies are investigating a brazen attack involving a mother and her 6-year-old daughter outside the Kohl's clothing store in Fleming Island.
That Clay County mother told deputies it all started as a road rage incident—and spilled over into the Kohl’s parking lot.
A 30-year-old named Valerie told Clay County deputies she was driving on County Road 220 Wednesday around 6 p.m. when woman in a silver Nissan Versa cut her off.
Valerie says she rolled down the window and asked the driver not to swerve because she had kids in the car.
According to the report, the driver followed her into the Kohl’s parking lot. The report says when Valerie got out of the car, the other driver attacked her. Valerie was reportedly smacked in the face, dragged by the hair and bitten on the arm.
The 6-year-old got out the car and said, "Let go of my mommy!”
The driver then slammed the door on Valerie’s child, hitting the child's forehead, according to the report.
Valerie called deputies and the other woman drove away. The erratic driver is described as as a black woman, about 5-foot-4 and 120 pounds with two braids.
Valerie spoke with Action News Jax's Letisha Bereola via Facebook, saying "On top of the physical pain, it was definitely terrifying and emotionally draining. As a mother, seeing my children that scared and upset tore me to pieces and to see my daughter get hurt by a grown woman is a feeling I can't even describe."
