HENRY COUNTY, Ga. — Investigators tell Channel 2’s Tom Regan the burglary crew that targeted a local gun shop may be part of a much larger operation.

Thieves hit the same store twice before they were caught on their third try.

One employee told him two of those arrested were just at the range last weekend.

That employee is certain that they were at American Heritage to scope out the store for a future gun heist.

But a manager basically caught them in the act on his iPad. %

"It was awesome. These dummies come back and now we got them,” manager George Mazzant said.

Mazzant showed Regan how his security cameras captured live video of a group of would-be burglars trying to break into his gun range early Tuesday morning.

He spotted them while lying in bed watching a live feed on his iPad.

He quickly called McDonough police, who quietly arrived and surrounded the property.

“The whole time, I'm talking to them on the phone telling them where they're moving and walking,” Mazzant said.

Mazzant wasn’t about to let the burglars get away.

He believes one of them was in on two other break-ins in May, when thieves made off with more than 120 weapons, mostly handguns with a street value around $100,000.

Those involved this time weren't so lucky.

'We had a quick response. We saturated the area surrounding the business including all the back streets and side streets, and were able to apprehend four of the five burglars before they made entry into the business," Mayor Kyle Helgerson said.
