JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Wounded Warrior Project is hosting a 5K walk Saturday morning to empower service members who are battling injuries and illnesses they experienced in the line of duty.

STORY: Wounded Warrior goes back to work

It’s called the “Carry Forward” Walk, and this is the third year it’s happening right here in Jacksonville!

The walk was originally scheduled for November, but due to a local nor’easter that hit that weekend with wind gusts up to 20 to 30 mph, it was rescheduled for today.

About 1,900 participants have signed up for this walk to raise money for Wounded Warriors. However, it’s still unclear how many people will show up.

The walk has been held in 2018, 2019 and now this year.

The people who arrive can show support in a number of ways. They can carry a flag to show support and patriotism, they can carry a weight to represent the responsibilities servicemen bear while serving our country or they can carry another person to symbolize one warrior carrying another in their time of need.

The Wounded Warrior Project has helped deliver more than 65,000 backpacks, transition care packages and family support bags to warriors and families.

They also offer more than 20 programs and services to injured service members and their families.
