FORT MYERS, Fla. — A visitor to a Florida country club filmed an unwelcome visitor as it climbed over a chain link fence and ignored the barbs at the top to make its way inside.
Eric Gilbert posted a video to YouTube Wednesday of an alligator climbing a fence at The Hideaway Country Club in Fort Myers.
"I didn't know what to think," Gilbert told WINK. "I didn't know they could jump straight over a fence."
He told the news station the alligator, known as Tom around the golf course, is a regular but typically sticks to the country club's pond.
"We always suspected he walked over that fence and disappeared," Gilbert said.
The gator is estimated to be around eight feet long, WBBH reported.
"(It) wiggled some of the poles up a little bit," Jeff Wilson, manager of The Hideaway Country Club, told the news station. "In fact, he went over barbwire too, which is pretty amazing. But of course, alligator skin is pretty tough."
The club will look into fortifying the fence, according to WBBH.
