Less than a week after 2-year-old Lane Graves was snatched by an alligator from the shore of the Seven Seas Lagoon at the Grand Floridian Resort near Magic Kingdom, a man has posted a photo illustrating the difficulty of spotting predators in the area.
Lane waded into about a foot of water Tuesday night during an outdoor movie event that he was attending with his family when the gator dragged him into the water.
Lane's father attempted to save the boy from the gator's grasp, but was unsuccessful.
An autopsy revealed that Lane, whose body was recovered Wednesday, died as a result of drowning and tramautic injuries.
Days later, Rob Caizza posted a photo on Twitter showing an alligator hiding in grass right across the lake from the Grand Floridian, where Lane was attacked. Caizza said the photo was taken in January.
Despite "No swimming" signs, there was no indication on the property that there was any danger of alligators or any other predators.
"We have closed all of our beaches and have made a decision to add signage, and we are also conducting a swift and thorough review of all of our processes and protocols," Jacquee Wahler, a vice president of communications with the company, said in a statement Thursday evening.
Lane's family has requested privacy in the wake of the tragedy.
