MORGAN COUNTY, Ala. — A woman has been charged with capital murder after she reportedly stabbed her young son to death in Morgan County, Ala., Thursday.
Morgan County Sheriff’s Office announced in a news release that Jennifer Nicole Long, 41, has been arrested and charged with capital murder in connection with the stabbing death of her 8-year-old son.
The sheriff’s office said Thursday morning around 5:30 a.m. deputies were called about a stabbing. Once on scene, deputies along with Priceville Police Department officers found a man with a stab wound and a dead 8-year-old boy. The man was treated by first responders at the scene and was taken to the hospital.
According to court records obtained by Al.com, the man told officers that his daughter had stabbed him and that he was afraid she was going to hurt his grandson who was upstairs.
When officers made their way upstairs, Long was coming down the stairs and she allegedly informed them that the boy had died, according to court records obtained by Al.com.
Neither the man’s nor the child’s names have been released.
Morgan County Schools Superintendent Tracie Turrentine released a statement through the sheriff’s office.
“It is with great sadness that we have lost one of our students in Morgan County. The student will be remembered for the joy he brought to his friends, classmates, and teachers. My condolences and thoughts go out to the family at this time. The loss of a student can be a difficult and challenging situation that can generate a high level of anxiety and distress in students. During this time, as the school community processes this news and copes with grief, please know that support services are available to those who need them.”
