LONG ISLAND, N.Y. — A cemetery worker in New York was killed when the plot he was working on collapsed, dropping him under the dirt.
Rodwin Allicock was working at Washington Memorial Park in Mount Sinai, Long Island, when the grave collapsed, News 12 Long Island reported.
He had been leveling the bottom of the grave when the dirt surrounding him gave way, police said, according to Newsday.
His co-workers tried to dig him out but were unable to get to him.
Police said he was found at the bottom of the grave, more than 7 feet from the surface. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials are unsure if all safety protocols were being followed at the time of the accident, News 12 reported.
Detectives from the Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad and officials from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating, Newsday reported.
