Restaurant chain Chipotle is testing a new rice option in select locations across the country.
Customers have always had white and brown rice options to choose from when building custom burrito and burrito bowls items, but now, they’ll be able to choose cilantro-lime cauliflower rice to go along with menu items.
Chris Brandt, Chipotle’s chief marketing officer, said the cauliflower rice has been one of the most demanded items from customers over the years.
“We’ve answered the call from fans and created a better-for-you option that puts a delicious twist on our classic white rice recipe by using the same fresh cilantro and lime ingredients and culinary techniques,” he said.
The cauliflower rice is a plant-based option made with real, grilled cauliflower, seasoned with fresh-chopped cilantro, lime juice and salt, according to a press release. It is grain-free and compliant with Keto, Whole30, paleo, vegan and vegetarian diets.
The new option became available in 55 restaurants across Denver and Wisconsin on July 15. Customer response will influence the company’s decision to expand the offering.
Within the last year, Chipotle has rolled out three new menu items across the nation after testing at select restaurants: carne asada, the Supergreens salad mix and queso blanco.
