Elon Musk reportedly plans to end remote work privileges for Tesla employees.
Bloomberg says Elon Musk has reportedly issued an ultimatum to Tesla employees, which is return to the office or get a new job. Musk is asking employees to work at least 40 hours in the office a week, being less than what factory workers are asked.
According to Fortune Magazine, one of Tesla’s shareholders, Sam Nissim, reportedly released the email sent to staff on Tuesday on Twitter. In the leaked email, Musk asks employees to return to the office.
“Moreover, the “office” must be a main Tesla, not a remote branch office unrelated to the job duties, for example being responsible for Fremont factory human relations, but having your office be in another state,” Musk says in the leaked email according to Fortune Magazine.
Musk also added that for “particularly exceptional contributors” who find working at the office impossible, he will review the exceptions. Fortune Magazine added that Musk didn’t add a timeline for the employees to return to work.
Electrek says that Musk sent a follow-up email to employees that he has slept at the factory.
“The more senior you are, the more visible must be your presence. That is why I lived in the factory so much – so that those on the line could see me working alongside them. If I had not done that, Tesla would long ago have gone bankrupt,” Musk said in a second email, according to Electrek.
