Actor Matthew McConaughey and his wife, model Camila Alves McConaughey, were among the more than 150 people on board a Lufthansa flight on Thursday that suffered such severe turbulence that seven people were taken to hospitals.
Camila McConaughey posted a video to her Instagram page showing the aftermath of the turbulence. The short video shows food on the floor and items in disarray in the background.
Flight 469 from Austin, Texas, was on its way to Frankfurt, Germany, when it encountered severe turbulence at an altitude of 37,000 feet while flying over Tennessee, the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement to The Associated Press. The agency is investigating.
Seven people on board the plane were taken to area hospitals after the Airbus A330 landed safely in Virginia at approximately 9:10 p.m. All of the injuries were believed to be minor, according to the AP.
In the caption of her post, McConaughey said, “Everything was flying everywhere. To respect the privacy of those around me that’s all I am showing but the plane was CHAOS And the turbulence keep on coming. … Thank God everyone was safe and ok.”
A passenger on the flight, Susan Zimmerman, told the AP that one of the pilots told the cabin that the plane fell about 1,000 feet during the turbulence.
“It felt like the bottom just dropped out from underneath. Everything was floating up. For a moment, you are weightless.”
The McConaugheys went from the plane to the bar, where Camila said in her post that they arrived one minute before closing. The pair got on another flight Friday, according to the post.
There were 172 passengers on the flight, the AP reported.
