A Florida man is accused of breaking into a woman’s apartment and killing her pet bird, authorities said.
Felix James Barajas, 46, of Palm Harbor, was arrested on charges of animal cruelty and assault, according to Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office online booking records.
According to the sheriff’s office, Barajas broke a window to enter the woman’s apartment at about 10:20 p.m. Wednesday, the Tampa Bay Times reported.
Deputies said Barajas had previously lived at the apartment but the woman had filed an injunction against him, the newspaper reported.
The woman left the apartment and took shelter with a neighbor, according to an arrest report.
Deputies said that once Barajas gained entry to the apartment, he took the bird out of its cage and killed it, according to the arrest report. He also ransacked the woman’s apartment, the report stated.
Barajas was booked into the Pinellas County Jail, according to the Times. He was released Friday night after posting bail for $3,500, online records show.
