PHILADELPHIA — Police said they arrested a man in Philadelphia after finding a woman decapitated inside a home.
Philadelphia police responded to a 911 call on Tuesday afternoon and arrived at a home to find a woman’s body and severed head on the kitchen floor, WCAU reported. Police did not identify the victim, other than to say she was 41.
Ahmad Shareef, 34, was arrested shortly after the gruesome discovery on multiple charges, including murder and abuse of a corpse. Neighbors told WPVI that Shareef tried to flee from the scene but was captured by police.
Investigators said they found Shareef covered in blood and hiding in bushes several blocks away from the scene, according to KYW.
Neighbors said there had been problems at the house.
“The yellow house, it’s the worst house on the block,” Nyjha Richardson, a neighbor, told KYW. “Now it’s like a house of horrors.”
“The older I got, the more I could see something was wrong in that house,” Gabriel Ramirez, a neighbor,” told WTXF. “There are young girls in that house and I don’t know what they’ve had to endure their whole lives.”
Police told WTXF that there were no children in the home at the time of the murder.
Neighbors told WCAU that the victim had been in a relationship with the suspect.
“The woman, they treat her like a slave,” Richardson told WCAU. “She runs in and out of the house barefoot. She really never goes anywhere else. She carries all of her bags in. They scream at her.”
