MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa — An Iowa man was arrested after trying to get money for numerous grave monument vases and a large, bronze headstone he took to a scrap metal recycler, investigators said.
The recycler, M. Gervich and Sons, called Marshalltown police Wednesday after Larry Lester Kunc Jr., 43, brought in the graveside items, KCRG reported.
Police checked with area cemeteries and determined the headstone was from Rose Hill Cemetery. Police said it was worth $8,272.
Kunc was arrested and charged with criminal mischief and possession of stolen property, according to arrest records. He is in jail on $7,000 bond.
Police are asking residents to check and report damage to loved one’s graves.
