The House Select Committee to Investigate the Jan. 6 Attack on the United States Capitol will hold its next public hearing on Tuesday at 1 p.m. ET.
While the committee did not announce which witnesses — if any — may appear, Politico is reporting that the reaction to former President Donald Trump’s call for action from the groups the Proud Boys and the Oath Keepers will be the focus of Tuesday’s hearing.
According to Politico, “the select panel’s two hearings (this week) are expected to focus on the convergence between Trump’s allies and fringe groups who incited Capitol violence, as well as the former president’s 187 minutes of inaction as the mob breached the building.”
Tuesday’s hearing will be the seventh public hearing on the attack that happened as members of Congress met to certify the results of the 2020 presidential election. Another hearing is expected Thursday.
In the meantime, the committee continues to gather testimony. On Friday, former White House counsel Pat Cipollone testified before the committee.
The New York Times reported Monday that Steve Bannon, once a close ally of former President Donald Trump, has agreed to testify before the committee.
Bannon is facing fines and jail time over his refusal to testify.
Jan. 6 committee vice chair Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyoming, said last week that the committee could make a criminal referral to the Justice Department for Trump.
Trump has denied any wrongdoing concerning the attack on the Capitol.
