COHASSET, Mass. — A man allegedly tried to enter the Cohasset Police Department in Massachusetts with a chainsaw.
A man attempted to enter the Cohasset police station Sunday, before allegedly barricading himself in his house with his two young children, according to WFXT.
Cohasset Police Chief Bill Quigley told WFXT that the man is known to the police department and he had allegedly attempted to enter the lobby of the police station by cutting through a security door with a chainsaw. The desk attendant was able to safely barricade herself and call for assistance. The man then allegedly fled the area.
According to WFXT, officers tracked the man down at his house. A standoff ensued between the man and officers for some time. At about 3:40 p.m., officers told residents in the area to shelter in place as the officers tried to negotiate with the man.
The man was not alone in the house. His son and daughter, both under the age of 5 were inside with him, according to WFXT.
At around 9 p.m., CPD said in a news release that the situation was resolved peacefully and they were able to take the man into custody.
CPD has not released the name of the man or the possible charges. The investigation is ongoing.
