WASHINGTON COUNTY, Okla. — A man was charged on Monday for allegedly killing a Washington County, Oklahoma couple, officials say.
In a news release, U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson announced that Lucas Anthony Walker, 20, was charged Monday in a federal court.
Walker has been charged with first-degree murder in Indian Country and discharging a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
On Friday, Jan. 20, Walker and a 17-year-old girl were arrested by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office in connection to the deaths of Larry and Deborah Dutton, according to KOKI.
According to court records obtained by KOKI, investigators arrived at the Dutton’s house for a welfare check on “the couple’s suspicious disappearance.” When officers arrived at the house, Walker and the girl were identified as the occupants of the house.
The girl was reportedly the biological granddaughter of the Duttons who they adopted as a daughter, according to court records obtained by KOKI. Authorities determined that Walker was the girl’s boyfriend through social media.
Investigators obtained a search warrant and made their way through the house. Once inside, investigators reportedly found blood, according to KOKI. They noticed that it looked like someone had tried to clean up blood from one of the bedrooms.
Walker and the girl both allegedly confessed to killing Larry and Deborah on Dec. 19, according to court records obtained by KOKI.
Walker allegedly entered Larry and Deborah’s house while they were both sleeping.
Court records obtained by KOKI said that a knife and gun were used in the murders. Walker allegedly confesses to using one of the Dutton’s pistols.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Walker allegedly killed them when they woke up. Walker and the minor had allegedly buried the couple in the backyard of the house.
The bodies were buried days later on Dec. 22, according to court records obtained by KOKI. The investigation found that Walker and the girl were allegedly spending the Dutton’s money after the murders.
Walker was arrested on two counts of first-degree murder, according to KOKI. He was officially charged with first-degree murder in Indian Country and discharging a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
The girl will be charged as an adult with two counts of first-degree murder in the Washington County District Court.
