EWING TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Three New Jersey men are facing charges after they were found with drugs, high-capacity magazine weapons and $209,000, authorities said.
Daniel Peyton, 55, of Westampton; Wayne Bessant, 39, of Trenton; and Davae Craig, 31, of Trenton, are facing drug and weapon charges, the New Jersey State Police said in a statement.
Craig and Peyton were charged with possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute and money laundering, according to a statement by the New Jersey State Police. Bessant was charged with possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute, possession of heroin, possession of a high capacity magazine and money laundering, the statement said.
On July, 10, the New Jersey State Police’s crime suppression control unit and opioid enforcement witnessed an alleged drug buy in Ewing Township between people in two cars, NJ.com reported. Officials pulled over the two cars -- a Chevrolet Impala and Mercedes-Benz -- the website reported.
Craig and Bessant, who were in the Mercedes-Benz, were found by officers to be in possession of $209,000 and were arrested without incident, MidJersey News reported. Peyton, who was driving the Impala, attempted to flee the scene, briefly dragging an Ewing Township police officer, state police said in a statement.
Investigators found 3 kilograms of cocaine in the Impala, the state police said. When police searched one of the men’s homes, they seized heroin and a high-capacity magazine, NJ.com reported.
High-capacity magazines have been illegal in New Jersey since 2018, the website reported.
All three men were being held at the Mercer County Jail pending a detention hearing, according to NJ.com.
