Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling more than 186,000 Ram pickups because a customer complaint revealed that factory-installed, all-weather floor mats can interfere with the operation of the truck’s gas pedal.
An additional 43,000 after-market mats are also being recalled, The Detroit News reported.
According to Consumer Reports, the automaker said in a statement that the recall was issued after a driver reported a floor mat interfered with the use of the accelerator pedal, but the company is not aware of any crashes or injuries to date related to the defect.
Specifically, the company is recalling 186,233 Ram 1500 pickup trucks from the 2019 and 2020 model years, sold primarily in North America.
All Fiat Chrysler vehicles since 2011 come standard with brake-throttle override, which cuts the throttle and allows the brakes to overcome acceleration if both pedals are pushed at the same time, The Detroit News reported.
Owners of affected vehicles should contact their local Ram dealer, who will be able to modify a vehicle’s floor mats until replacement mats are available, Consumer Reports reported.
