BAKER, Fla. — A woman has died after she was thrown from a horse during a rodeo in Florida on Saturday.
In a news release, the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office said they are investigating after a barrel racer from out of state competed at the Baker Rodeo on Saturday. She was thrown from her horse and died.
The woman was 59 years old and was thrown on an exit ramp and hit a pole, OCSO said, according to The Associated Press.
OCSO said the woman was taken to the hospital after she hit a large wooden pole. She died there from her injuries.
“Our sincerest sympathies go out to the family and friends of the victim,” said OSCO.
The Baker competition is part of the National Barrel Horse Association tour of rodeos around the country, the event’s website said, according to the AP.
The woman’s name has not been released. The investigation is ongoing.
