‘We are back’: Jacksonville to host UFC event at full capacity

Jacksonville, FL. — Jacksonville will play host to one of the first major sporting events open to 100% capacity during the pandemic. UFC 261 will be in town April 24th at the Vystar Veterans Memorial Arena.

UFC President Dana White made the announcement on Twitter Monday night and said the event would be open to 15,000 people.

Action News Jax asked UFC what safety protocols will be in place.

In a statement, Mayor Lenny Curry said, “Thanks to the strong leadership of Governor DeSantis and his smart and safe approach throughout COVID-19, Florida is poised to host signature sporting events.

The UFC and its president, Dana White, have demonstrated the ability to safely host fans at multiple events that have taken place during the pandemic in Florida, Las Vegas and Abu Dhabi.

For the thousands of UFC fans who are ready to return to world-class sports entertainment, “we are proud to welcome you back to Jacksonville.”
