Woman charged after Jacksonville officer left scene with cuts and bruises

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A police report involving the assault of a Jacksonville officer last week shows Jermisha Ramsey, 23, facing battery charges.

It happened when the officer was responding to a string of car burglaries in the Brooklyn neighborhood around 2 a.m. last Friday. Shortly after he arrived, a witness heard gunshots down the street on Edison Avenue.

While walking up, he noticed a large group of about 8 people fighting. After telling the group to get out of the road, he approached with his rifle and called for back-up.

The officer says he was forced to separate two people, one identified as Ramsey.

According to the police report, she was not listening to the officer’s commands and was getting physically aggressive. He pointed a taser at her, but another person walked in between them in order to help Ramsey get away.

He eventually got Ramsey in handcuffs, but says he threw her on the ground when she tried to stand up. That left the officer with abrasions and scratches on his arms and legs.

Jacksonville Fire and Rescue examined Ramsey and other people from the crowd with injures.

Ramsey was quickly released from jail and has no pending court dates.
