JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Action News Jax First Alert Weather Team has been tracking fog all morning long. That fog is what the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department said led to a bad traffic crash earlier today in Baldwin.

JFRD said it had multiple crews on the scene for hours.

JFRD told Action News Jax that JSO was actually on the scene first after a car ran into a deer that they could not see because of the fog. In an effort to avoid that crash, another eastbound car coming from the west, went into the opposite lane and crashed head on into another car.

“Severe head-on impact,” said JFRD Capt. Eric Prosswimmer.

The crash happened shortly after 7 a.m. this morning on Beaver Street and Oscar Road. Action News Jax spoke with JFRD, who said this morning’s fog played a part in the traffic crash.

“We transported four people, three of those are serious injuries. We brought in our critical care unit, which is one of our new units because of the length, extraction and also the extent of the injuries,” said Prosswimmer.

Action News Jax First Alert Meteorologist Garrett Bedenbaugh says that the dense fog reduced visibility to less than a quarter of a mile in western Duval County this morning. More areas of inland fog are expected tomorrow morning.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and Florida Highway Patrol are also a part of this crash investigation.

“You’ve got life-threatening injuries; They’ve got to investigate it as a possible fatality because that may come about. We’ve got the entire road blocked right now,” said Prosswimmer.

At the time of this traffic crash, JSO was on this case, it has now been handed over to Florida Highway Patrol. I am working with them now to see if there is any more information on this traffic crash. I’m also working to find out how much longer Beaver Street will be blocked off to the public.”
