First Alert Weather: Tropical Storm Nestor in the Gulf to pour on a part of your weekend

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — 11 a.m. update: Tornado Watch for NE Florida has been canceled. The First Alert Weather team will continue monitoring coastal showers for the possibility of a tornado/waterspout through this afternoon.

5 a.m. update: A Storm Surge Warning is in effect along the Florida Gulf Coast from Indian Pass to Clearwater Beach. Tropical storm force winds are spreading across portions of the Florida Gulf Coast, according to the National Hurricane Center. Isolated flash flooding is possible.

TROPICS: We are tracking Tropical Storm Nestor in the central Gulf of Mexico. Some light rain and showers will precede the heavier rain this evening with showers steadily increasing overnight along with a few rumbles of thunder.

Saturday will be breezy with several bands of heavy showers and thunderstorms.  There will be an isolated tornado threat through the day.  The heaviest rain and strongest storms will diminish west to east late in the afternoon into the early evening. LOCAL: Plan on some rain this evening, but the showers will be scattered and mostly light with some dry periods too.  The best chance for rain will be near and south of I-10 this evening before increasing and spreading north after midnight.  Mild temperatures will hold steady in the upper 60s to low 70s.

Saturday will be breezy with on and off heavy showers and thunderstorms.  Rainfall will average 1-2" with winds of 15-25 mph but with higher gusts.  There will be a high rip current risk at area beaches with rough seas and surf.

Sunday will be nice under partly to mostly sunny skies with highs in the low 80s.
