BURESH BLOG: It's been an early start to the Florida wet season

The Action News Jax First Alert Weather Team is monitoring the potential for some long-term tropical development through the Memorial Day weekend.

Global forecast models have been consistently hinting that there could be some activity in the tropics. We are monitoring the western Caribbean Sea for the potential for an area of low pressure to form late next week -- and into next weekend.

It is still too early to determine exactly where this potential area of low pressure will ultimately go.

However, some of the forecast models do move this system in the direction of the Florida peninsula. This would -- at the very least -- increase our tropical moisture.

The disturbance would help give us another boost in rain and storms. We will keep you updated in the First Alert Weather Center.

If this system were to get a name it would be “Alberto.”

The 2018 Atlantic hurricane season officially begins June 1. Check out the First Alert Hurricane Center for ways you can be prepared.
