Finn Carlin is a weekday morning reporter with Action News Jax, the latest in the numerous jobs he has held with the station in the two years he has lived in northeast Florida. Before switching to the position full-time, Carlin was Action News Jax’s weekend morning producer for a year. At the same time, he worked for the station as a multimedia journalist during the week, acting as his own writer, editor and photographer on his enterprise, community-oriented stories. He’s also been a routine weekday producer for shows like Action News Jax at Noon, 4:00, 5:00, 6:00 and 6:30. Before moving to the Sunshine State in 2023, Carlin worked as a multiplatform news producer at WLTX News 19, the CBS affiliate in Columbia, South Carolina, while working full-time to finish his Bachelor’s in Broadcast Journalism from the University of South Carolina. As a student, he earned numerous awards, including “2023 Student Journalist of the Year” from the Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas. He was also given two awards of merit from the Hearst Journalism Awards Foundation and a 2024 Southeast Student Production Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. His reporting has covered various topics, from county struggles to cope with growth and development to major local school district changes and county-by-county spending on housing projects. Carlin believes engaging, informative, and immersive news reporting is more important now than ever. He loves spotlighting the stories of people experiencing community-oriented issues, showcasing stories of empowerment and uplift, and breaking down complicated government decisions so that everyone can understand why they should care. Apart from his brief television news career, Carlin has worked as a freelance reporter and intern at South Carolina Public Radio, the state’s NPR affiliate, and worked as a production intern at Levine Children’s Hospital and Charlotte, North Carolina, where he created an hour-long, weekly TV and radio program for patients through Seacrest Studios as part of the Ryan Seacrest Foundation. Carlin comes from a military family, his father being an Air Force veteran with 27 years of service, and has lived all over the East Coast. He is an avid runner, a music and pop culture fanatic and always lives to learn as much as possible. He’s excited for his future in northeast Florida and is always looking for the next good story to tell.
