Season 3 of "Empire" begins at 9 p.m. Wednesday on FOX30 after season 2 ended with a literal cliffhanger.
During a fight between Rhonda Lyon and Anika Calhoun, one person falls over the balcony in the last seconds of season 2.
Earlier in season 2, Rhonda was pushed down the stairs of her home, causing her to lose her baby. She suffers from amnesia and believes that she tripped and fell.
“As her memories start to come back, she begins to believe that somebody actually did push her and comes to the conclusion that it was Anika,” said executive producer Ilene Chaiken.
In the season finale, Rhonda punched a now-pregnant Anika in the face and confronted Anika about pushing her down the stairs. No one in the Lyon family believes Rhonda’s claims.
Season 3 ends with Rhonda and Anika tussling on a balcony, and someone falls over the edge.
“It’s like the butterfly effect. (The fall is) going to affect everything,” said Grace Byers, who plays Anika.
