JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UPDATE: 5:30 A.M. FRIDAY
It all started when the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office was called out to an armed robbery at a Publix on Old St. Augustine Road just before 10 Thursday night.
When JSO tried approaching the suspect, they immediately took off running. That’s when an officer released their K-9.
While in pursuit, the suspect tried shooting the dog and officer but missed. The K-9 eventually caught up and the suspect dropped his gun, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Employees and customers were in the store during the robbery. No injures were reported.
The suspect’s identity has not been released, but they were taken into custody.

Several JSO officers are on scene off Old St. Augustine Road near Hartley Road in Mandarin.
Action News Jax Reporter Dani Bozzini came across the scene while she and a photojournalist were heading to a shooting investigation off 45th Street.
There is crime scene tape up along the road and some lanes on Old St. Augustine Road are blocked off.
Dani also saw an ambulance on scene and saw a person being treated.
A nearby senior living community tells Action News Jax the crime scene is not connected to their property.
