JSO: Woman in 90s dead after car hits utility pole in Mandarin

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a woman died in a crash on Old St. Augustine Road early Friday.

According to detectives, at around 3:30 a.m., a four-door sedan was traveling southbound on Old St. Augustine Road. for an unknown reason, when it passed Loretto Road, the driver lost control and struck a utility pole.

The front-seat passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and back seat passenger were transported to a hospital with serious injuries.

The driver and front seat passenger were both in their 90s. The backseat passenger was in his or her 40s.

This crash marks the 73rd fatality in Duval County this year. JSO is still investigating the cause of the crash.

Traffic will be delayed in the area for another hour or two. The traffic light is out due to the utility pole being struck, so JSO will direct traffic until JEA restores power.
