Man killed after driving into semi on Monument Road, JSO says distracted driving is to blame

JACKSOVNILLE, Fla. — A 37-year-old man is dead after crashing his RAV4 into the back of a semi on Monument Road, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Officers say the driver collided into the back of the slow-moving semi as it was leaving a golf course.

The driver of the tractor trailer was uninjured. The driver of the RAV4, whom officers say was not wearing a seat belt at the time, was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

In a news conference from the scene Friday afternoon, JSO Sgt. Rich Bouey said investigators believe distracted driving was to blame, and called the fatal accident entirely preventable.

The crash marks the 141st traffic fatality of 2021 in Jacksonville.
