JSO: Suspect hit by patrol car after chase in Jacksonville

Clay County deputies are working to identify everyone involved in weekend dispute and shooting at Island Life Grill in Fleming Island.

Deputies say two people were wounded in the shooting early Sunday, neither had life-threatening injuries.

“We have about 15 to 20 witnesses that have come forward," Clay County Sgt. Keith Smith said.

Two people were approached by a group of individuals inside the restaurant. They left, and were confronted by the same group of men outside the restaurant, where the shooting occurred.

“Not sure of what their relationship is or how far back it goes," Smith said.

The suspects fled the Fleming Island Town Center on motorcycles.  Clay Deputies received reports of multiple people riding motorcycles on U.S. 17 in Orange Park shortly after the shooting.

Deputies stopped short of saying whether this shooting was tied to any gang activity.  Both shooting victims from the restaurant were driving motorcycles, however.

“There’s many groups that ride together on motorcycles," Smith said. "We don’t want to just say that because three or four individuals approached three or four more individuals and they were on motorcycles that it’s quote ‘gang related’ or anything like that”."

Businesses that may have surveillance video or photos from around 1 a.m. Sunday is encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (904)264-6512.
