Family wants answers in UF student's murder

None — GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- A family wants answers to why a UF student was murdered.

Stacey Brown was inside a friend's apartment Monday night when police say two men barged in and shot her. Police believe she wasn't the intended target, but rather, this was a home invasion robbery.

People living at the home told Action News they'd only known Brown about a month. Mannuel Shaw who also in the home when the suspects broke in. Police say he pointed an unloaded gun at the suspects to scare them. He was arrested for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Police also found drugs inside the home.

Family members tell Action News Brown was getting ready to start classes at UF next week. Her step-father says she was just starting to get her life turned around. Her co-workers put a memorial outside her house in Gainesville. Her step-father says they just want the two men caught. "We want to find them. This is ridiculous. They killed a 20 year old beautiful girl. She didn't deserve this. She was in the wrong place at the wrong time. She didn't deserve this and we all want her back," said Tom Burgess.

Police are looking for a 90's white honda, possibly a civic, 2 door with tinted windows. They believe one suspect is between 25 and 35 years old. The other is slightly younger. They say one man had facial hair, possibly a goatee.

The other man had tattoos on his hands. If you have any information you're asked to call the Gainesville Police at 352-334-2471.
