ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A 71-year-old man died Monday after troopers said a driver veered off an Orange County road and hit a mailbox, tree and light pole before hitting the man while he stood on the sidewalk.
Trooper said the driver, identified as a 22-year-old man from Oviedo, then continued until he crashed through the front porch of a house on Wild Blackberry Trail near Winter Garden around 11 a.m.

People who saw the crash happen told troopers that the man was driving above the posted speed limit and ran off the roadway after he failed to navigate a curve in the road approaching Avenue of the Rushes.
A witness told Channel 9 he thought the car was driving nearly 80 mph before the crash.

Photos from the scene show that the car knocked down several pillars on the home’s front porch before crashing into the house.
Troopers said the 71-year-old man from Sanford died on the scene, and the driver of the car was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

Traffic homicide investigators are on the scene investigating.
