JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — As Helene is forecast to impact our area, some school districts are beginning to announce closures. Here is a list of local areas where district schools, private schools, colleges, and universities have officially announced they will cancel classes.

Northeast Florida:
Baker County
Baker County Schools will be closed on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024, and Friday, Sept. 27, 2024.
Bradford County
Bradford County School District has canceled classes on Thursday, September 26, 2024, and Friday, September 27, 2024. Homecoming events have been rescheduled as a result. Click here for more information.
Clay County
Clay County District Schools announced schools will be closed on Thursday, Sept. 26, and Friday, Sept. 27.
Columbia County
Columbia County Schools said in a post on its Facebook page that classes will be canceled Thursday, Sept. 26, and Friday, Sept. 27. Classes are set to resume Monday, Sept. 30.
Duval County
Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan said in a Tuesday noon news conference that all Duval County Public Schools will be closed Thursday, Sept. 26, and Friday, Sept. 27. This is because some schools serve as shelters.
DCPS said extended-day programs will remain open for normal hours on Wednesday; however, parents and guardians will be encouraged to pick up their children early. All afterschool activities and athletics scheduled for Wednesday afternoon through Friday, Sept. 27 are canceled. After the storm passes, we will decide when athletics practices and contests can resume.
Nassau County
All Nassau District Schools will be closed on Thursday and Friday. No after-school activities or events will take place on Wednesday.
Putnam County
All PCSD schools will be closed on Thursday, Sept. 26 and Friday, Sept. 27. All extracurricular activities on these days are canceled.
St. Johns County
The St. Johns County School District has announced that all schools and offices will be closed on Thursday, September 26. All extracurricular activities and extended day programs have also been canceled or closed.
Schools and Offices are closed Friday, September 27. Any extracurricular activities or athletic events taking place after school hours and into the weekend will take place as scheduled.
Union County
The Union County School District, including the Tigers Den, will be closed on Thursday (9/26) and Friday (9/27). The school district will re-open and return to normal operations on Monday (9/30). The football game scheduled for Friday night has also been postponed as district staff works to reschedule the game to another week.
Southeast Georgia:
Brantley County
Due to the projected path of the storm, all Brantley Schools and the Central Office will be closed on Thursday, Sept 26 and Friday, Sept 27.
Camden County
Camden County Schools will close all schools on Thursday, September 26, 2024, and Friday, September 27, 2024, for all staff and students. All official announcements regarding schools will be made on the Camden County Schools website, Facebook and Instagram pages, or through the Camden County Schools app.
Charlton County
Charlton County Schools will be closed for students and staff Thursday and Friday, Sept. 26 and 27. School will reopen Monday, Sept. 30.
Glynn County
Glynn County Schools will be closed on Thursday. This decision was made to ensure that students, staff, and families are safely off the roads when the storm is likely to be at its strongest. School will resume as normal on Friday, Sept. 27.
Pierce County
Pierce County Schools will be closed for students and staff Thursday and Friday. All school activities including sports will be cancelled for Thursday afternoon. A decision will be made on Friday morning about Friday’s football game. If weather does not permit the away game against Vidalia to be played on Friday, it will be changed to Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Normal operations will resume on Monday, Sept. 30.
Ware County
All Ware County schools and the Central Office will be closed to students and staff on Thursday and Friday, September 26 and 27, 2024, due to Hurricane Helene.
Normal operations are expected to resume on Monday, September 30, 2024. Please stay tuned for updates and take necessary precautions during the storm. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our community safe!

Private schools
Bolles School: Due to Hurricane Helene, The Bolles School will be closed on Thursday, Sept. 26. At this time, the school plans to reopen all four campuses on Friday with their regular schedule. This will be confirmed on Thursday.
Also, the Homecoming Football game against Baldwin has been rescheduled to Monday, September 30, at 6 p.m.
Diocese of St. Augustine schools: Schools will be closed Thursday. The diocese will be monitoring the progress of the storm and will not know if campuses can open on Friday until the storm has passed. Staff will need to ensure that each of the campuses has the capacity to open on Friday.
Episcopal School of Jacksonville’s three campuses will be closed Thursday, Sept. 26.
Jacksonville Country Day School will close in advance of Hurricane Helene on Thursday, Sept. 26, and Friday, Sept. 27. Families should watch their emails and texts for updates.
St. Johns Country Day School will close in advance of Hurricane Helene on Thursday, Sept. 26, and Friday, Sept. 27.
Eagle’s View Academy: Due to the potential for inclement weather, the EVA campus will be closed and students will be working from home this Thursday and Friday (9/26 and 9/27). An email will be sent this afternoon with more information about this. Stay safe!

Colleges and Universities
Edward Waters University will be closed Thursday, Sept. 26, and Friday, Sept. 27. All classes (in-person and online), activities, and events are canceled, and administrative offices will be closed during this time. Essential staff/service members with Residential Life, Campus Safety and Security, Sodexo Magic Dining, and Facilities will remain on-site to assist and support students on campus.
Florida State College at Jacksonville: All classes and activities at all FSCJ campuses and centers will be canceled from Thursday, September 26 through Friday, September 27. This includes online classes. Additionally, all administrative offices will be closed during this time. At this point, FSCJ plans to fully reopen on Saturday, September 28, and resume all normal operations.
Florida Gateway College will be closed on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024, and Friday, Sept. 27, 2024.
St. Johns River State College will be closed on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024, and Friday, Sept. 27, 2024.
University of North Florida: Due to the anticipated weather impacts of Hurricane Helene, all classes, including online classes, will be canceled Thursday, Sept. 26, and Friday, Sept. 27. University offices will be closed during this time. Activities and events scheduled on campus are also canceled. The University plans to resume normal operations on Saturday, September 28. Any changes to this plan will be communicated as soon as possible.
